Protect Your Family From Disaster with an Emergency Food Supply

Today we are truly blessed to enjoy a food supply that is a wonder of modern technology. The produce on your plate may have traveled thousands of miles across oceans and continents to arrive fresh in your local grocery.  But the same technology that enables the tomato on your plate to travel 6,000 miles to you also makes our food supply extremely vulnerable to disruption.

The “Just in Time” inventory methods used today mean that there is not much extra supply on hand stored locally. And if a disruption to the transportation supply lines occurs – whether from natural disaster or a man-made disaster such as  terrorist attack, energy shortage or even economic panic – food supplies could go down quickly. If the food supply lines do go down for any reason, we could face serious shortages of the most basic supplies that our families need for survival.

Generation-X Artists: The Mission School

One of the most vibrant and interesting artistic movements driven by Gen-Xers is the Mission School of art which has come of age in San Francisco. Learn more about Generation-X’s eclectic expression in art as Annette Labedzki reports:

The Mission School

Mission School – An American Flavor of Street Art

The Introduction & History
The Mission School derives its name from Mission District, better known as ‘The Mission,’ near San Francisco, US. As the name suggests, it is a regional art movement. Beginning in the 1990s, the alumni of the San Francisco Art Institute founded it. The school remains active even today. The freelance writer Glen Helfand first suggested the term ‘Mission School’ in the alternative weekly San Francisco Bay Guardian. In due course, the popularity and the reach of this provocative art form kept growing. This made the Mission District a hub of the intoxicating twentieth century street art.

Lifelong Learning for Fulfillment and Personal Development

Lifelong Learning for Fulfillment and Personal Development

Many members of Generation-X have come to view education predominantly as a stepping stone to career advancement. Most attended college as a matter of course, a rite of passage to the expected successful career. They grew up in a time where increasingly, having a college degree was the only way to get ahead, as blue collar manufacturing jobs in the United States virtually disappeared. Attending college frequently came to be seen as a means to an end: get a degree and get a decent career. And Gen-Xers graduated from college at rates higher than any previous generation in US history.

However, as Gen-Xers have approached their middle years, many who spent their college years  studying commercial and career-oriented subjects have now begun to think about what great ideas and interesting academic topics they may have missed.

Is the American Dream Alive for Generation-X?

When you talk to members of Generation-X, one common thread that you come away with is the widely-held belief that Gen-Xers  don’t have the same assurance of economic well-being that their parents – or even elder siblings – have had. This perception has often been dismissed as another symptom of an over-indulgent, self-absorbed generation who thinks they have been dealt a raw deal. However, an economic study by the Pew Charitable Trust suggests there is truth behind the perception and that in fact, Generation-Xers may be the first generation of Americans to be less well-off economically than their parents.
